New Jersey Payroll Tax Registration
Where to register, how long it takes, and what to send us.
One NJ-REG registration covers withholding, unemployment, disability (TDI), and family leave (FLI).
Corporations, LLCs, and other entities file their formation or authorization certificate before completing NJ-REG.
Employer registration (NJ-REG)
NJ Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services (DORES)
- You'll receive:
- A New Jersey taxpayer ID: your 9-digit FEIN plus a 3-digit suffix (for example, 123-456-789/000). It covers withholding, unemployment, disability, and family leave.
- Send Unify:
- Your New Jersey taxpayer ID.
Unemployment and workforce funds (same NJ-REG registration)
NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Employer Accounts
- You'll receive:
- New-employer rates of 2.6825% UI and 0.1175% workforce funds on the first $44,800 of wages in 2026. Employees also pay 0.3825% UI and 0.0425% workforce funds.
- Send Unify:
- Your New Jersey taxpayer ID and your rate notice.
Employer rates run on a July-to-June fiscal year; new-employer rates are unchanged through June 30, 2027.

NJ Department of Labor, Division of Temporary Disability and Family Leave Insurance
- You'll receive:
- A 0.50% new-employer disability rate; family leave has no employer share. In 2026 employees pay 0.19% for disability and 0.23% for family leave on the first $171,100 of wages.
- Send Unify:
- Nothing extra; disability and family leave run under your New Jersey taxpayer ID.
Employers can use an approved private plan instead of the state plan.
