Colorado Payroll Tax Registration

Aurora's Occupational Privilege Tax was repealed effective January 1, 2025. No Aurora OPT account is needed.

State income tax withholding

Wage withholding account (CAN)

Colorado Department of Revenue

You'll receive:
An 8-digit Colorado wage withholding account number (CAN).
Send Unify:
Your CAN.

State unemployment insurance

Unemployment insurance account (MyUI Employer+)

Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE)

You'll receive:
An 8-digit employer account number (EAN) and your introductory premium rate: 3.05% for most employers in 2026, 6.285% for heavy construction.
Send Unify:
Your EAN and your 2026 rate notice.

FAMLI premium account (My FAMLI+ Employer)

Colorado FAMLI Division (CDLE)

You'll receive:
A My FAMLI+ Employer account. The 2026 premium is 0.88% of wages; employers with fewer than 10 employees don't pay the employer share.

Denver Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT)

City and County of Denver, Treasury

You'll receive:
A Denver business tax account. OPT is $5.75 per month withheld from each employee who earns $500 or more in Denver in a month, plus $4.00 per month from the employer. The $4.00 employer tax also applies to each owner, partner, or manager regardless of earnings.

Glendale Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT)

City of Glendale Tax Department

You'll receive:
A Glendale tax account. OPT is $5 per month from the employee and $5 from the employer for anyone earning more than $750 in Glendale in a month.

Greenwood Village Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT) license

You'll receive:
An OPT license (one-time $10 fee). OPT is $2 per month from the employee and $2 from the employer for anyone earning $250 or more in a month.

Sheridan Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT)

City of Sheridan Finance Department

You'll receive:
A Sheridan tax account. OPT is $3 per month from the employee and $3 from the employer; check with the city (303-762-2200) for the monthly wage threshold.
